Ko Domi, Lumped boundaries, Wild clay from Namyangju, porcelain, Flexible Installation, 2025
Ko Domi utilized wild clay collected from Namyangju, notable for its high plasticity, by blending it with Silk 203 to create slip casting material. In determining the mixture ratios, the blends ranging from 9:1 to 6:4 (Namyangju wild clay: Silk 203)—which showed low workability and minimal color difference—were excluded. Instead, experiments were conducted to assess the stability of mixtures ranging from 5:5 to 1:9, as well as test samples with 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% additions.

Kim Doheon, Study of Wild Clay and Glaze Surfaces, Wild clay from Gwangju, Icheon, Yangju, and Yeongwol, Flexible Installation, 2025
Kim Doheon explored how raw sandy soils collected from four different regions interact with a highly fluid glaze, examining the ways in which the distinct properties of each wild clay affect the glaze’s surface. By observing variations in glaze flow and surface texture according to the texture and composition of the soils, he investigated the unique visual and physical responses generated by the materials.

Kim Dongin, Flawer series, Wild clay from Gapyeong, Gwangju, Gyeongju, and Paju, porcelain, Flexible Installation, 2025
Kim Dongin sought to use limited materials efficiently by incorporating additional clay collected from Naju as a pigment for slip. He examined the color variations produced by mixing wild clay, refined through an 80-mesh sieve, at ratios of 1%, 5%, and 10%.

Kim Hyeonyoung, Autonomic Drugs 1230-C, Wild clay from Gapyeong, Gwangju, and Namyangju, ceramic minerals, metal oxides, Flexible Installation, 2025
Kim Hyeonyoung worked with unrefined raw clay, using it without sieving in order to explore the inherent textures and material qualities of unfiltered soil. The works were created by combining raw clay with the artist’s unique recipe of kneaded minerals and oxides, forming a personal material composition. Through the transformation of identical cubic forms during firing, the artist sought to observe how the shape and texture of material undergo change within the process of ceramics.

Sim Daeun, An Episode of Stone and Soil, Fired mixed clay (soil, discarded ceramic ware, ash), soil and stone collected by the artist (Gapyeong, Namyangju, Yangju, Icheon, Imsil, Jeongseon, 2023-2024), Flexible Installation, 2025
The topsoil from various regions, referred to as 'wild clay', reveals the geological information of the soil and its process of interaction with the surrounding natural environment, as each exhibits its own color, texture, and granularity. Based on the experience of planning and participating in the project, Sim Daeun records the material and empirical data of the earth and stones collected from the ground, likening them to the shapes of rocks. It is a juxtaposition of pieces mixed with byproducts collected along with the earth, solid pieces fired together with wild clay and waste ceramic fragments, and stone pieces weathered on site. Hoping that the earth, stones, and ceramics collected from mountains, fields, and cities will become a testament to our encounter, she leaves a brief record of her whereabouts during that time.

Cha Dahyun, Use of layer , Wild clay from Gapyeong, Gwangju, Namyangju,Yangju, Flexible Installation, 2025
Cha Dahyun applied wild clays from various regions—sieved through 10-mesh and 16-mesh screens to emphasize differences in color and texture—onto clay bodies by mixing them with blended slip (Buncheong clay and Sancheong clay in a 5:5 ratio) at proportions of 5:5 and 8:2. Through these experiments with different combinations of soils, the artist sought to depict cross-sections of geological strata in diverse patterns.
