‹Local Plate›의 교류지인 남양주시 와부읍 팔당리는 500년이 넘은 마을 제사, '산신제'를 이어나가고 있다. 해마다 두 번씩 마을의 안녕을 기리기 위해 진행되는 산신제는 종교적 의미를 넘어 마을 주민 간의 교류와 화합의 기능을 수행하는 팔당리의 기둥이자 뿌리다.
ROS는 팔당리와 함께한 경험을 다양한 매체로 풀어낸다. 팔당리 마을의 흙으로 제작한 제기는 땅이 가진 색과 질감, 켜켜이 쌓인 지층의 흔적과 마을의 역사를 담는 그릇이 되고, 그 흙 위에서 자란 농작물은 그릇 위에 담긴 음식이 되어 마을 주민, 창작자, 관람자에게 공유의 감각을 만들어 준다. 이 일련의 과정을 구전하는 퍼포먼스와 영화는 지역 공동체 문화를 바탕으로 사물이기 이전의 공예가 지닌 다층적인 모습을 보여준다.
프로젝트는 팔당리에서 주최하는 산신제와 더불어 관람객을 팔당2리로 초청한 '팔당잔치(2025)'와 2년간의 서사를 풀어낸 «Local plate(2024, 2025)»전을 통해 창작자와 관람자, 팔당리 주민이 함께 땅을 밟고 이야기 나누는 공동의 장을 마련한다.
Paldang-ri (Wabu-eup, Namyangju-si), the collaborative site of the project "Local Plate", has preserved a 500-year-old village ritual known as 'Sanshinje' (Mountain Spirit Ritual). Held twice a year to pray for the village's peace and prosperity, Sanshinje transcends its religious significance; it is the pillar and root of Paldang-ri that fosters interaction and harmony among its residents.
ROS translates its experiences with Paldang-ri across various media. Ritual vessels crafted from Paldang-ri's soil become containers that hold the earth's color and texture, the traces of accumulated geological layers, and the history of the village. The crops grown in this very soil become the food served on these vessels, creating a shared sense of communion among the village residents, creators, and audiences. Furthermore, the performances and films that narrate this series of processes reveal the multi-layered nature of craft before it becomes a mere object, all deeply rooted in the local community culture.
Through the Sanshinje ritual hosted in Paldang-ri, the 'Paldang Janchi (2025)' which invited audiences to Paldang 2-ri, and the exhibition Local Plate (2024, 2025) that unfolds the narrative of the past two years, the project creates a shared space where creators, audiences, and Paldang-ri residents can step on the earth together and share their stories.
